Theodoros Stamos
Theodoros Stamos was born in 1922 in New York and started at a young age with sculpting before he changed professions to painting in 1939. The Artist with Greek roots belongs to the first generation of abstract expressionists and still impresses with his mystical and expressive Color Field Painting.
At the age of only 20 years, Stamos held his first solo exhibition in the Wakefield Gallery in New York and established himself in the art scene.
For over two decades he devoted himself to teaching at the Black Mountain College in Asheville and later at the Art Students League in New York, before he decided to set his main focus on his art while travelling.
Today, after the Artist's death in 1997, Stamos's paintings and paperworks are exhibited in museums like the Whitney Museum of Art or the Guggenheim Museum, both in New York.
